Ingredients :
- 4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1 cup shortening
- 4 egg yolks
- 2 tbsp lemon juice
- 10 tbsp cold water
- FILLING:
- 7 cup finely chopped peeled apples
- 2 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1 dash ground nutmeg
- GLAZE:
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1 tbsp 2% milk
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
Method :
- Combine flour, salt & baking powder. Cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbles. In a separate bowl, whisk egg yolks, lemon juice,& water; gradually add to flour mix, tossing with a fork until dough forms a ball. Divide in half & chill for 30 mins.
- Roll out one portion of dough & transfer to an ungreased 15-in. x 10-in. x 1-in. baking pan.
- In a large bowl, toss apples, sugar, flour, cinnamon & nutmeg; spread over crust. Roll out remaining pastry to fit top of pan; place over filling. Pinch to seal; Cut slits in top.
- Bake at 375° for 45-50 minutes or until golden brown. Cool. Combine glaze ingredients until smooth; drizzle over bars before cutting.
