Ingredients :
- 8 oz large elbow macaroni noodles
- 2 cups grated sharp cheddar cheese (1/2 lb)
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1/4 cup flour
- 2 cups milk
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/8 teaspoon pepper
Method :
- Preheat oven to 375F
- Cook macaroni as package label directs; drain.
- In 1 1/2 quart shallow baking dish, alternate macaroni (in 2 layers) with 1 1/2 cups cheese (in 2 layers); set aside.
- Meanwhile, prepare sauce: Melt butter in medium saucepan; remove from heat. Blend in flour; gradually stir in milk, then salt and pepper. Bring to boiling, stirring; boil 1 minute.
- Pour sauce over macaroni and cheese in casserole dish. Top with remaining cheese.
- Bake 15 to 20 minutes, or until cheese is melted and browned.
